Charity and its virtues in Islam

Sadaqah is a voluntary act of charity performed solely for the purpose of pleasing Allah (swt) and without expecting anything in return. Sadaqah is the sincerity of faith and righteous attitudes that leads to a healthy and well-balanced society.

Prophet Muhammed (saw) was said to be “more generous than the wind.” [Bukhari]. He (saw) would give everything he had to the poor and would even go hungry to feed someone in need. He (saw) had an impeccable character, and there is wisdom and enormous reward in following in his footsteps.

In fact, Allah (SWT) calls those who prevent orphans and the poor from being fed “those who reject the faith” (107:1-3), because charity should be given in “prosperity or adversity” (3:134), without regard for one’s wealth. We should believe that a genuine act of giving can only result in plentiful reward.
